Every Feature, Explained

Zero-Friction Tasks is intentionally small. Every feature on this page exists because it makes personal task capture faster, more private, or more reliable — and nothing else made the cut.

Alt+Space — Instant Capture on Windows

The app runs in the system tray and opens with a single global hotkey. Type the task, hit Enter, the panel closes. Total time from thought to captured: under one second. No other Windows task manager has a comparable capture path.

Press Alt+Space → type → Enter → done.

AES-256 End-to-End Encrypted Sync

Tasks are encrypted on your device using a key derived from your sync code, then transmitted as ciphertext only. The server stores encrypted blobs it cannot decrypt. This is true zero-knowledge architecture — the same model used by Signal and Bitwarden.

Even if the server is compromised, your tasks remain readable only to your devices.

Native Apps on Every Platform

iPhone (iOS 16+), Android, Windows (Tauri shell), macOS (Apple Silicon), and a first-class Web App at app.zerofriction.app. All five share the same data model and UX. No "main platform" — every platform is first-class.

Same screen, same gestures, same speed on every device you use.

Real-Time Sync via Sync Code

Generate a sync code on first launch. Enter it on a second device — the lists appear in real time. No email, no OAuth, no Sign In with Apple. The sync code is the only identifier; it never leaves your devices.

New device setup: under 10 seconds, no account required.

AI Agents Can Add Tasks

A standard REST API at /api/v1/docs accepts requests authenticated with your sync code. Coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, OpenClaw) can create follow-up tasks. ChatGPT or Claude can post action items from a chat. Zapier, n8n, and Make can convert emails or calendar events to tasks. Any tool that speaks HTTPS can integrate.

Free tier includes API access. Open OpenAPI spec at /api/v1/docs/openapi.json.

See the API documentation

Offline Mode

Two modes: (a) default offline-first — work without a connection, sync resumes automatically when online; (b) explicit Offline Mode — disables cloud sync entirely. Useful when you want a private list that never leaves a single device.

Full functionality on a plane, in a tunnel, in a Faraday cage.

Reminders That Actually Fire

One-time and recurring reminders. Native iOS notifications with long-press to complete or snooze. Lock-screen widgets show pinned tasks even when the device is locked. No "your reminder failed because the app was closed" — reminders are OS-scheduled.

iOS notifications, Windows toast notifications, fully native.

Manual Drag & Drop Sorting

Drag to reorder. No forced priority sorting, no AI guessing what matters. Your list is in the order your brain put it in. Pinned tasks always stay on top, but inside each section the order is yours.

Press and hold any task to start dragging.

Free Forever, Pro When You Need It

Free tier: 50 tasks, 3 lists, 3 active reminders — fits most people forever. Pro at €5.99/month or €49/year unlocks unlimited everything plus recurring reminders. No paywall on sync, no paywall on encryption, no paywall on the API.

€0 for the core experience. €5.99/month if you outgrow it.

What We Deliberately Left Out

Kanban boards. Gantt charts. Pomodoro timers. AI suggestions for what you should work on. 100+ integrations. Team workspaces. Project dependencies. Complex priority matrices. Time tracking.

If you need those, Asana, ClickUp, and Monday.com exist and are great at what they do. Zero-Friction Tasks is for the case where all of that is too much.
